Heavy traffic expected around Auckland Airport on Thursday

Motorists driving to or around Auckland Airport tomorrow afternoon (Thursday, 21 March) are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time because of an event with potential to cause disruption on the transport network.

An event with a large gathering is planned at the Manukau Memorial Gardens at 4pm. The Gardens are beside where State Highway 20 connects with State Highway 20B to the airport.

“The 4pm timing of the event coincides with the start of evening peak traffic so motorists can expect some traffic congestion and delay in the area. People trying to get to the airport for flights need to allow extra time,” says Auckland Operations Manager Rua Pani.

“The alternative route to the airport is SH20A, but this is also subject to congestion at this time of night, so again motorists using this route need to plan ahead and be aware there could be delays.”

Motorists are advised to take care and look out for pedestrians around the SH20/20B interchange as there may be vehicles parked on side roads. There is limited parking at the Memorial Gardens.
