Free public transport will be available for anyone wishing to attend two community-led gatherings arranged for this
weekend.
Environment Canterbury senior manager public transport Stewart Gibbon said, “We want to support the two community-led
events this weekend by providing free public transport. We believe that this is something the community would support us
in doing.”
The first event is the Christchurch March for Love on Saturday March 23. All public transport, including the Diamond Harbour ferry, will be free between 7am and 2pm.
The second event is Remember Those Who Lost Their Lives 15-3-19 on Sunday March 24. All public transport will be free from 2pm onwards for this event.

Gibbon advises that services will run to their usual weekend timetables.
“We strongly advise everyone to plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey, as it is likely the network will be
busier than usual. Make use of our Journey Planner or call Metroinfo on 03 366 88 55 for advice,” he said.
“We understand there is potential for large numbers of people attending these events, but unfortunately we are unable to
put on any extra buses. Like all businesses, the people who operate the public transport service have been greatly
affected by the events on Friday. Our number one priority is looking after those people and focusing on ensuring we
maintain our usual services to keep the city moving.
“While we know there will be a large number of community-organised events happening across the city over the coming
weeks, at this stage our plan is to provide free buses for the two events this weekend and then to look at how we can
support any further official event that is organised by Christchurch City Council or the government.”
