National spineless and pathetic in Auckland elections

The National Party is letting down Auckland ratepayers by not backing an alternative to the current Mayor or Councillors, says the Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance.
Ratepayers’ Alliance spokesperson Jo Homes says, “Auckland Future’s effort last election was lackluster, but at least they turned up to the game. This time around, National is treating the election like a lost cause, ignoring the desperation of Auckland ratepayers hammered by the Council’s culture of high spending and high rates.”
“A National Party-backed ticket could manage a selection process for a solid ratepayer-friendly alternative to Phil Goff. Alternatively, they could nudge John Tamihere into firm commitments to get Council finances under control.”
“The Ratepayers’ Alliance will be doing its part to secure a ratepayer victory in the election, by making candidates take stances on a Ratepayer Pledge which we will detailed in the coming months. Bu without the centre-right parties showing up to the game, Auckland will see the same results as corrupted cities like Chicago where single-party dominance has undermined good governance and competition of ideas.”
