Council fun run kicks off Park Week

Published: Tue 12 Mar 2019 09:29 AM
More than 300 people took part in the Council’s Park to Path fun run over the weekend, the first in a series of activities lined up for Parks Week 2019.
“The run was a great opportunity for people all over the District to get together, get active and enjoy the outdoors,” says Acting Parks and Recreation Manager Monique Engelen.
“Participants had three races to choose from – a 10km, a 6 km and a 1km for kids – and the track was designed for people of all ages and levels of fitness.”
Ms Engelen says the different routes gave the participants the chance to enjoy two of our most popular tracks – the Waikane River Trail and shared paths along the Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway. The participants also began the race at Otaraua Park, the Kāpiti Coast’s newest park.
“We’re lucky here in Kāpiti to have so many outdoor spaces – many of them are well-known, but we’ve also got some hidden treasures. Parks Week is about celebrating and appreciating these spaces, so please visit our website to find out what we’ve got planned.”
“Congratulations to all this year’s winners and thank you to all those who supported us to get Park to Paths off the ground.”
