Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) will be asked to adopt the draft 2019-2020 Annual Plan this Thursday 7 March which will highlight how Council is progressing against some major projects.

This year’s annual plan will provide an update on any specific variations from the district’s 2018-2028 Ten year Plan for the 2019-20 period. This will include proposed changes to major projects, strategic decisions and essential spending on infrastructure and services along with the subsequent rates effect.

QLDC Chief Executive Mike Theelen said a big focus for this annual plan is Council’s journey towards zero waste and calls for community action to support this vision.

“We are excited to be rolling out a new solid waste service from 1 July across the district which provides an opportunity for many to rethink the way they manage waste. As a council and a community we must accept that the actions of every individual can shift the outcomes for future generations,” he said.

“We’ve worked hard to make this service an affordable proposition for the wider community and for many, the change will represent an overall cost saving.”

Mr Theelen reiterates Council’s commitment to taking bold steps towards delivering a plan that meets the district’s growing demand for necessary infrastructure and services along with progressing our key projects.

“There are some incredibly exciting developments ahead of us, so please take the time to tell us what you think during the consultation period,” Mr Theelen said.

Council will vote to start public consultation at this Thursday’s meeting. Following adoption, the Annual Plan 2019-20 consultation document will be made available for the community to provide general feedback from 11 March to the 12 April.

The 2018-2028 Ten Year Plan was the most detailed and complex financial plan undertaken by QLDC. It contained by far and away the boldest ten-year capital delivery programme, three times bigger than the previous plan. QLDC is satisfied it can rely on that analysis for the Year Two of the Ten Year plan as the basis for the 2019-2020 budget.
