The Beard is Gone for Gumboot Friday
To raise money for Gumboot Friday Psychotherapist, Mental Health Advocate, Columnist and Broadcaster Kyle MacDonald is shaving off his beard, for the first time in 25 years.
Friday April the 5th will be the first ever Gumboot Friday, where I am Hope, led by New Zealander of the Year Mike King will be raising $2 million dollars to pay for kids to access counselling.
“For my entire adult life, I have worn a beard. My children have never seen my chin. But the I am Hope Kaupapa is about making yourself vulnerable, so we can reach out and connect with those that need help and support. So I am doing something that will definitely make me feel vulnerable, shaving off part of my identity.” Says Kyle MacDonald
Kyle is asking for sponsors to support him shaving via a Give A Little page (see: https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/clean-shaven-for-gumboot-friday) and if the more than $5000 is raised he is pledging to remain clean shaven for at least three months.
The fundraiser is running until Thursday the 14th of March, at which time Kyle will shave his beard live on Facebook, via the Nutters Club Facebook Page.
All of the money received by the Key to Life Trust will go towards paying for counselling for young people. For more information on Gumboot Friday see: http://www.iamhope.org.nz/gumbootfriday
