Westland reduced speed trial ended

Westland District Council began a trial of various speed reductions around the district four weeks ago. The West Coast Road Safety Committee (Comprising representatives from WDC, Buller DC, NZ Police, AA, ACC, Community and Public Health, and NZTA) recognised that there may be some difficulties enforcing the temporary speed limits but believed the trial in itself was worthwhile pursuing. The Police have now independently considered this further and recommended a return to the original Gazetted speeds.
Feedback has generally been positive and we would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to provide your views about our test sites.
This is not the end of the Speed Limit Review as there are a number of other roads that will be reviewed and these will now form part of the wider speed review and eventual public consultation process.
