Path closure at Mangaiti Gully

Published: Fri 22 Feb 2019 03:05 PM
A walking path through Hamilton’s Mangaiti Gully will be closed from 25 February to 1 March to allow for the removal of a group of willow trees.
The path, which can be accessed from Wairere Dr in Queenwood/Hukanui, is a popular walking route for residents, but staff in Hamilton City Council’s Parks and Recreation Unit have concerns the trees will continue to crowd out native plantings also lining the path.
The willow trees have been slowly removed throughout the gully as native tree and plant species have been replanted, these removals are a continuation of that. The closure is from 8am to 4pm each day and is to ensure a safe site for arborists carrying out the job.
Path users will need to detour via adjacent streets while the work is being done. Detours will be sign-posted.
The Council apologises for the inconvenience.
