QLDC Media Advisory - Speed on the agenda
Temporary speed limit trials implemented across the Queenstown Lakes District are now complete with signage scheduled to come down from Saturday 16 February.
Queenstown Lakes District Council General Manager Property and Infrastructure Peter Hansby said the trials have been extremely valuable in understanding the effects and advantages of reduced speeds in key locations.
“We trialled reduced speed limits on a number of priority roads and within town centres following safety concerns and feedback from local residents and drivers. Now that the trials are complete, we’ll be reinstating the original speed limits and signage while we work on a more permanent solution for managing speed in these areas,” he said.
“The trials have been really successful and while we reinstate the original limits, we ask that drivers stay alert to changed signage and always drive safely,” Mr Hansby said.
To keep up the momentum, Councillors will be asked to consider a report that would kick start a formal public consultation process on a revised Speed Limits Bylaw for the district at its 7 March meeting.
If approved, a consultation process will begin in mid-March.
