Kapiti Run for Youth 2019 Open for Registration

15 February 2019

The Web Genius Kapiti Run for Youth (KR4Y) is taking place on Sunday 31st March and is open for registration with a brand-new website. “Last year we raised nearly $20K so we are hoping to match or exceed that this year – I usually run, yet this year I will be walking as I am still recovering from a hip op,” says Richard Calkin, Founder, Web Genius.

KR4Y is a FUN walk or run on the beautiful Kapiti coastline between Paraparaumu and Raumati Beach, raising money for Kapiti youth using a Fundraising Partner model. There are four options: 12km walk, 6km walk, 12km run and 6km run with registration between 9am and 10.15am at Maclean Park, starting at 10.30am.

It’s FREE to register as an individual or group and we like every participant to achieve a minimum of $20 sponsorship which can be done easily and securely online. “Just imagine if 500 people registered and they all raised $50 each, WOW, that would be $25,000”, says Helene Judge, Campaign Manager. Since inception in 2011 KR4Y has raised $100,000 to support youth in Kapiti.

Fundraising Partners this year include: Challenge for Change, Kapiti Basketball Assoc, Kapiti College, Kapiti Youth Achievement Trust, Kapiti Youth Support, Paraparaumu College, Raumati Swimming Club Inc, The Shed Project Kapiti and ZEAL Kapiti.

Our fundraising model focuses on returning as much money as we can back to the Kapiti youth community. This means, all funds raised are split 70% to the official Fundraising Partner chosen by the participant at the time of registration and 30% is retained to run the event.

Local business sponsorship plays a large part in the campaign. 2019 will be no different with local businesses being given the opportunity to sponsor Gold $500, Silver $250 or Bronze $100. “We are working hard to touch base with existing and potential sponsors to maximise the result – last year we achieved 56 sponsors at $13,000,” says Helene.

Many local business people give their time, services and products to make KR4Y a sustainable event. The businesses involved are Sponsors and include: Beach FM, City Fitness, Kapiti Business Projects, Kapiti Candy Co, Kapiti Hire, Kapiti Law, Kapiti News, Peter Jackson Plumbing, R-Line, Shoe Clinic, SignCraft, 16Nine Photography and Web Genius. On the day of the event, volunteer numbers swell as we need help in the Registration Gazebo and Marshalls on the beach at the start and turnaround point.

KR4Y was recognised in the 2018 Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards which celebrate volunteers for their valuable contribution to society. KR4Y won the Kapiti Sports and Leisure Category and went on to compete in the Regional finals.
