Grantham St temporary road closure

Published: Tue 12 Feb 2019 10:36 AM
A section of Grantham St in the central city will close over two nights on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 February to allow setup for painting of Hamilton’s historic Victoria Bridge.
The stretch of Grantham St between Victoria St and the Bridgewater office building beyond the bridge will be closed from 7pm to 5am on both nights, to allow installation of scaffolding and a site office.
Vehicles will not be able to use Grantham St as a through route over this time, with traffic management in place detouring along Tisdall St. A small number of unmetered parking spaces under the bridge will be taken up by the contractors for the duration of the painting job.
Along with the scaffolding which will provide access to clean and repaint the bridge, a textile wrap will be installed to contain any material to prevent it from reaching the Waikato River below.
The repaint of the steel-arched bridge which was last painted 26 years ago, is expected to be completed by mid-year, weather permitting. Additional minor maintenance work will also be done at the same time.
