The Kāpiti Coast goes electric with first EV Charger

Published: Mon 11 Feb 2019 03:35 PM
The Kāpiti Coast is going electric and Raumati Village will get its first electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station installed later this week. This is the second charger in a project that will bring seven new EV chargers to the Kāpiti and Horowhenua Districts over the coming months.
Kāpiti Coast District Council Mayor K Gurunathan says that the chargers are a positive move for the Kāpiti Coast area and is optimistic that they might bring more than just electricity to the District.
“The chargers are also great news for local businesses who should see more custom due to EV drivers.”
The chargers are the result of a trans-regional partnership between ChargeNet, Electra, the Kāpiti Coast and Horowhenua District Councils and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) who provided funding support through the Low Emission Vehicle Contestable fund. The project’s first charger was installed at PAK'nSAVE Kāpiti in Paraparaumu earlier this year. Four further locations will be opening in coming months at Paekākāriki, Waikanae Beach, Foxton, and Shannon.
