Tonight, to celebrate Chinese New Year and the Year of the Pig, the Sky Tower will be lit in a prosperous display of red and gold. The Sky Tower will be lit with a gold base and red top until 13 February.
Traditionally red and gold symbolize happiness, good fortune and abundance and are the two colours most associated with the celebration of Chinese New Year.
The Sky Tower is the southern hemisphere’s tallest man-made structure based in the heart of Auckland and is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable landmarks.
SKYCITY lights the Sky Tower for charities or community initiatives that we support financially, to mark national holidays, milestones or other celebrations or events, or as a symbol of respect or solidarity.
