Community feedback sought on Laurel Hill SHA proposal

Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) has received an Expression of Interest (EOI) to develop a Special Housing Area on land along Ladies Mile, Queenstown - the Laurel Hills Special Housing Area. QLDC is now seeking community feedback on this EOI.

The proposal is on land with a total area of 9.38 hectares located between State Highway 6 and Shotover Country in the Rural General zone of both the Operative and Proposed District Plans.

Council amended its Special Housing Area Lead Policy in 2017 to include Ladies Mile within category 2 which “includes areas that may be suitable for establishment as special housing areas, subject to further assessment against this policy.”

While the Housing Accords and Special Housing Areas Act 2013 doesn’t provide for formal consultation on the establishment of special housing areas, QLDC’s elected members are interested to hear local views on the proposal.

There is an online feedback form and the Expression of Interest on the QLDC website http://www.qldc.govt.nz/your-council/your-views/laurel-hills-special-housing-area.

Feedback closes at 5.00pm on 1 March 2019 and the proposal will be considered by the Council at its meeting on 7 March 2019.
