Wanaka Community to be on the lookout for fake QLDC Building inspectors
Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) has received reports of individuals posing as Council Building Inspectors in the Wanaka area to gain access to private residences. Both a male and female have sought to access homes within the last month to “undertake an inspection for compliance” and this activity has been reported to NZ Police.
In these instances the individuals had no confirmed appointment and were unable to produce any QLDC proof of identification, nor were they in QLDC uniform. To date there has been one confirmed attempt and further anecdotal instances.
All inspections or visits undertaken by the QLDC Building Consent team will be booked by prior appointment and the Council officer will be able produce identification confirming they are a QLDC employee. They will also be wearing QLDC branded clothing and their vehicle will also be a QLDC car.
If any resident receives an unscheduled visit from an individual claiming to be from the Council Building Consent team to complete an inspection, who is unable to produce appropriate identification, please contact the Police immediately. Likewise, if you have previously received such a visit or have information relating to this activity, please contact the Police.
