The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that State Highway 1 over the Brynderwyn Hills will be closed for two nights
next week for resealing.
The road will be closed between 9pm and 5am on Tuesday, 22 January and Wednesday, 23 January between Waipu and the
intersection with SH12 on the south side of the Brynderwyns.
The Transport Agency’s Northland System Manager Jacqui Hori-Hoult says closing the road at night will disrupt the least
amount of traffic.
“During the closure we will carry out other maintenance work including clearing litter, clearing drains, and cleaning
edge marker posts and signs.”
“We apologise for the inconvenience while we carry out this essential maintenance to improve safety and resilience.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead to avoid the closures or allow extra time.”
Signposted detours will be in place.
For north-bound traffic it will be via SH12 and Paparoa Oakleigh Road and add about 55 minutes to the journey. For
traffic heading south, the detour is via Mangawhai Heads and adds about 30 minutes.
The south-bound detour is not suitable for trucks, so all truck drivers (except HPMVs) are asked to use the
Paparoa-Oakleigh detour only. HPMVs will have to wait at the turnoff until the resealing is completed.
Electric Vehicle charging stations are available at Kaiwaka and Whangarei.
