Yachting - Busy start to 2019 for Evans Bay

Evans Bay Yacht & Motor Boat Club (EBYMBC) have a busy start to the 2019 calendar year when they will be hosting the 2019 P Class Tanner & Tauranga Cup Regattas and the New Zealand Paper Tiger National Championships back to back in the first two weeks of January.

EBYMBC, who are currently celebrating their centenary sailing season are hosting the Championship Regattas on the beautiful Wellington Harbour, with the race course planned to be immediately off the Club’s location at the southern end of Evans Bay there will be fantastic spectator viewing.

Racing for the Tanner Cup (The Interprovincial Championships) will be held on the 3rd and 4th of January, before the Tauranga Cup (NZ National Championships) will race on the 5th, 6th and 7th (as well as the 8th if Wellington’s weather doesn’t come to the party), with the best of New Zealand’s junior (under 16) sailors taking part.

The New Zealand Paper Tiger Nationals will then kick off racing from the 9th through to the 12th with a fleet of just under 50 boats expected and skipper ages ranging from 18 to 70+ years, this is a class that truly accommodates all sailors.

While it will be a busy period, the excitement is certainly building and there will be plenty for anyone interested to come down and have a look at.
