Weekend Stats 22 -23 Dec: Surf Life Saving Northern Region
A few incidents occurred over the weekend with a total of three rescues. More details below.
Saturday 22 December
At Raglan a female surfer suffered a spinal injury coming off her board feet first.
Sunday 23 December
1. At Waipu a 14 year old boy suffered a hip injury and an ambulance was requested.
2. A boat with no driver and engine still running ran into Takapuna beach and crashed into a boat ramp. Coastguard and
Police requested surf assistance with SP5 (jet ski) and Takapuna lifeguards being alerted. Takapuna lifeguards spotted
the boat and started a visual search of the beach noticing an individual make returning to shore. Lifeguards helped the
man to shore and returned him to the tower. He was assessed and no injuries were found. He was then handed over to
Police and the search was stood down. Search lasted 15 minutes and Police were very impressed with the response of the
young lifeguards.
