Environment Canterbury is supporting retail in the central city this Christmas by offering free bus rides home on
Saturday, December 15.
Visitors to the central city can enjoy a free ride home on Metro services this Saturday, December 15. Tickets can be
collected from a dedicated stall in the Bus Interchange between 9am and 6pm and entitle the holder to free travel for
the rest of the day. People can also pick up a ticket at ChristchurchNZ’s Twilight in the Central City event in Cashel
Street Mall between 6-8pm this Friday, December 14.
Environment Canterbury public transport marketing manager Edward Wright said with the many new shops, restaurants and
entertainment facilities that have opened in the central city over the last year, it’s encouraging to see more and more
people coming back in to explore what’s on offer.
“We’re happy to support the central city during the lead up to Christmas by offering free travel home on Metro services,
encouraging people to think about using different modes of transport when they head out shopping or dining in the city,”
he said.
An entry form attached to the free travel ticket can be completed to enter a draw to win some fantastic prizes,
including:
• vouchers for The Crossing shops
• pre-loaded Metrocards
• breakfast at Breakfree on Cashe
• a food hamper from FreshChoice City Market
•
Spot prizes will be given out on the day.
The Bus Interchange will be a hive of activity in celebration of Metro’s Christmas Fiesta, with live jazz music
throughout the day, and performances from Silly Billy the Clown at 12pm and 3pm.
