Control of Alcohol in Public Places Bylaw is approved
The Kāpiti Coast District Council adopted the Control of Alcohol in Public Places Bylaw 2018 last week, replacing the 2013 version.
Group Manager Regulatory Services Natasha Tod says there were no significant changes to the bylaw.
The goal of the bylaw is to promote a culture of responsible drinking, improve the community’s safety, and allow for the responsible enjoyment of public places. The bylaw also maintains the current alcohol-free zones.
“The only amendments proposed in the new bylaw are minor changes made to better align it with the Local Government Amendment (Alcohol Reform) Act 2012 (LGA).”
Several community members came to the Council meeting to speak about the need for signs that are more easily read and understood.
Ms Tod says the
Council has taken this feedback onboard and will be looking
at what steps it can take to improve signage in public
places in the New Year.”
