Mixed Week’s Weather

Published: Mon 10 Dec 2018 01:08 PM
Thanks to some welcome high pressure, the working week has started off settled, although with plenty of cloud around. Aotearoa, land of the long white cloud is certainly earning its name today, but expect brighter spells for most of us this afternoon.
MetService are forecasting a mixed week of weather ahead, despite the high pressure. Fronts are set to move across the country mid-week, bringing wet and cloudy conditions along with humid, muggy air for the top half of the country.
“A low-pressure system moves in from the Tasman Sea on Tuesday through Thursday, producing showery conditions and possibly a period of rain for northern areas” says MetService Meteorologist Tui McInnes. “Some of these showers may be heavy with possible thunderstorms inland, particularly later in the week” he continues.
However, the news isn’t necessarily bad. “Because the conditions are expected to be mostly showery, not everyone will see the wetter weather,” McInnes explains. “Showers by nature are localised, meaning that the rainfall is not persistent and not widespread.” This means that kiwis can still expect some fine breaks through the week.
The reminder comes from McInnes to “stay up to date with the latest forecast and the radar to see if it’s going to be an inside day, or one to get all the washing done!”
As always, it’s that time of year where the sun is in full strength. Even when there are clouds above, remember to slip, slop, slap and stay sun smart!
