Dunedin Scores a Hat-Trick of Finalists in the New Zealand Event Association Awards
Dunedin is punching above its weight in the national event stakes with three city organisations today announced as finalists in the forthcoming 2018 New Zealand Events Association Awards.
Beating fierce competition from across the country the Dunedin City Council, Dunedin Venues Management Limited and the New Zealand International Science Festival, all made it through to the finals.
John Christie Director of Enterprise Dunedin says, “Having three finalists represented at the New Zealand Event Association Awards is testament to the excellence, competency and creativity that exists in Dunedin. Not only are we practised at hosting major events well, we have a number of outstanding signature Dunedin events that reflect of our uniqueness and identity as a city.”
The ‘Paint the Town Ed’ festival put together by the DCC is up for an award in the Best Local Government Event category. A massive undertaking across council in conjunction with city stakeholders and numerous community groups, Paint the Town Ed received overwhelmingly positive feedback from concert-goers and caught the attention of national and international media, not to mention Ed himself.
Also reaching the finals based on the Ed Sheeran concert weekend experience, DVML is in the running for two awards - Best Venue and Best Emerging Event Professional.
Terry Davies, CEO DVML says, “We are thrilled to be finalists in two categories for these national awards. To secure three Ed Sheeran concerts was a terrific achievement and to have the team’s efforts recognised through this announcement is awesome. The city really put on a good show for visitors and locals alike.”
The New Zealand International Science Festival is up for Best Regional Event.
Dan Hendra, Director of the New Zealand International Science Festival was rapt that the festival has been named a finalist, “This year the Science Festival reached over 20,000 people across 241 events – it’s hugely complex, however this complexity is made possible only by the incredible support the city gives. The nomination is really a nod to Dunedin and how we can effectively work together to achieve great results.”
The 2018 awards have attracted a record number of entries of extremely high calibre, and Dunedin will be well represented at the awards ceremony which will take place in the first quarter of 2019.
