Statement attributable to Detective Inspector Shane Cotter
The Police investigation into the death of a 71-year-old man in Petone last night [Friday 30 November] is ongoing.
As a result of inquiries today a 41-year-old man was arrested on unrelated matters and appeared in the Lower Hutt District Court on charges relating to willful damage and drug possession.
He was remanded in custody.
Police are still looking to speak with any witnesses to the incident and also anyone who may have information that could assisted with the ongoing inquiries.
People in Petone will notice an increased Police presence in the area over the coming days.
Police are committed to understanding what has occurred in this incident and holding to account those responsible for the man’s death.
The family of the deceased are being supported by Police and Victim Support.
