New Service Directory to help Veterans and Service Personnel
New Service Directory to help Veterans and Service Personnel
A new website has been launched today to guide Veterans and New Zealand Service Personnel towards organisations that can help address their health, welfare and social needs.
The new online service directory is called WeServed.nz and was launched today at Ranfurly Village by the Minister for Veterans, Hon Ron Mark.
WeServed.nz has been developed by the Ranfurly Veterans’ Trust, with the support of the organisations that make up the Combined Veterans’ Advocacy Group––the Australasian Services Care Network, the RNZRSA, the No Duff Charitable Trust, Veterans’ Affairs, and the NZDF. Around 30 organisations are listed on WeServed.nz to date and other organisations providing services to Veterans and Service Personnel are welcome to apply to join the Service Directory.
The Chairman of the Ranfurly Veterans’ Trust, David McGregor, said that the Trust had been happy to sponsor the development of WeServed.nz.
“WeServed.nz will be a useful resource for our Veterans and serving men and women and we are delighted to have been part of making it happen,” he said.
“The mandate of the Ranfurly Veterans’ Trust is to help Veterans and their families and we have been doing that in various forms since the Earl of Ranfurly set up the Trust in 1903 – 115 years ago. Today we carry on that proud tradition of caring for Veterans and Service Personnel, not only through our hospital and our residential village but now also through the establishment of WeServed.nz,” said Mr McGregor.
The idea of a Service Directory for Veterans and current Armed Forces Personnel arose out of a discussion with Veterans’ Affairs and other Veteran support organisations. A number of groups in New Zealand engage with Veterans and Serving Personnel offering a wide range of services, including in the areas of mental and physical health, family support, assistance with finance and housing, and peer support, especially when times are tough.
Most have their own websites, but there hasn’t been a central directory where Veterans and Serving Personnel could find contact details of service providers. Once the need was identified and the Ranfurly Veterans’ Trust agreed to resource the project, WeServed.nz was born.
WeServed.nz directly links to all the organisations participating in the website. The Service Directory on the site identifies the range of services which might be needed, and then links those who are searching to those who can provide those services.
WeServed.nz is sponsored by the Ranfurly Veterans’ Trust.
