This summer, Aotea Square once again puts on a show. It will be the perfect place to experience a line-up of the best of Auckland’s live entertainment, including an art installation that invites you to lose yourself behind a myriad of doors.

Open from 10 January and limited only by your imagination and the decisions you make, 1000 Doors is an intriguing labyrinth where a seemingly endless series of doors, screens, portals and gateways open to memories, nostalgia and the spaces in between that linger with traces of past inhabitants. Is it scary? We’re not saying! But once you enter into the house of impossibility, each person will experience something different from the next.

From 6 December, Aotea Square will hum with a specially curated music programme by Matthew Crawley (Golden Dawn, Flying Out), who once again brings together some of our best Kiwi talent to perform live for your listening pleasure.

On Friday nights in December, Auckland’s favourite choirs including Auckland Girls’ Choir, Auckland Welsh Choir and Auckland Street Choir will deliver festive feels in front of a selfie-friendly, 12-metre tall Christmas tree.

Then on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, you can grab a drink from BOX in the Square and kick back to a collection of great local musicians and DJs including powerhouse Sandy Mill (who’s performed with Basement Jaxx and Placebo) and the Girls Rock! Camp Aotearoa showcase. And 95bFM’s beloved Kids Show will return to broadcast live with special guests Mr Roberelli and Claudia Gunn.

In January – Sounds of Summer will host a brand new line-up of local bands, as well as a Folk Week dedicated to performances by some of Aotearoa’s finest folk artists. Next door in the Auckland Town Hall there’ll be free classical concerts featuring the New Zealand Opera and Royal New Zealand Navy Band, plus so much more.
