BUSES TO RETURN TO NORMAL AS INTERIM DEAL ON TABLE
First Union and Go Bus have agreed to withdraw their industrial actions and return to negotiation. The move comes as a
result of an agreement to explore a pathway to attain additional funding through the Waikato Regional Council to achieve
the drivers’ wage claim.
Both parties have agreed to work collaboratively with all funding parties to improve driver’s wages and cease all
industrial action in the interim.
This is an extremely positive step resulting from the efforts of both the Waikato Regional Council and Hamilton City
Council to assist Go Bus and the Union to end this long running dispute, which has seen bus services disrupted
throughout the week.
Go Bus Chief Operating Officer Nigel Piper says that he is delighted that we now have an opportunity to address the
impasse and he looks forward to getting things back to normal.
“Go Bus has always supported increasing driver’s wages but was simply unable to do so any further without additional
funding support. Council’s willingness to work with us to achieve this is an important and vital step to resolving this
long running dispute”
First Unions Jared Abbott said the development is excellent news for the drivers and commended the council for their
efforts.
