Yesterday, Police searching for Khandallah woman Sonam Shelar recovered a body at a beach in the Wairarapa.

The body was found by surfers around lunchtime.

Formal identification is complete and Police can now confirm that it is Sonam, who was reported missing on Saturday from Cashmere Avenue, Wellington.

The post mortem is now complete, however we are unable to comment further until Police receive the results.

The investigation continues, with the Police National Dive Squad undertaking a search at Wellington’s south coast today.

We are working closely with Sonam's family to ascertain further facts, and we continue to support them at this tragic time.

The inquiry team continues to appeal to residents in Khandallah to share, if they have, CCTV camera footage or images that show the road or street in the areas of Cashmere Avenue, Onslow Road, Box Hill, Burma Road, Agra Crescent.
