Planned power outage from midnight - wider Taupō region

Published: Tue 20 Nov 2018 04:50 PM
Following yesterday’s events in Taupō, our engineers have identified that further work needs to be done at the Wairakei substation to avoid the risk of another unexpected outage.
This work can be carried out indoors at the substation. To minimise disruption to the residents and businesses of Taupō, Unison (the lines company) and Transpower will work together to shut off power from midnight tonight, with an expected restoration time of 5am, Wednesday 21 November.
We apologise for the inconvenience while we undertake this essential work, and are doing our best to ensure security of the power system to the people of Taupō.
Over the outage period we will communicate via our Facebook page.
