Mayoral statement on the passing of Neil Collins
Dunedin (Monday, 19 November 2018) – I am deeply saddened at the passing of former Dunedin City Councillor and radio broadcaster Neil Collins.
Neil served as a loyal and conscientious member of Council for 22 and a half years, during the period 1989 to 1998 and 2000 to 2013.
Regardless of his position on any Council matter, Neil had a courteous and gentlemanly way of presenting his view. He was particularly proud of securing free parking in the city for residents aged over 75.
Of course, Neil also had a long and prestigious career in the broadcasting industry. He would often regale the Council with his memories of interviewing and interacting with various celebrities.
I extend my deepest sympathies to Neil’s family and friends.
