Hutt City Council is proud to be supporting the 2018 White Ribbon New Zealand campaign, in conjunction with the Hutt
Union & Community Health Service, E Tū Whānau Orongomai Marae and the Pomare Taita Community Trust.
E Tù Te Awa Kairangi is the theme of a community breakfast being held at the Walter Nash Centre on Thursday 22 November.
Media are invited to attend this event which will feature local White Ribbon Ambassadors, an address by Scott Brown the
U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand, Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace and Hutt Valley DHB member Ken Laban.
Entertainment by local school children and breakfast will be provided. Please join us to celebrate this important
kaupapa and to learn more about initiatives underway in Lower Hutt to stop violence towards women.
Seven Lower Hutt White Ribbon Ambassadors have been appointed to provide leadership and use their public profile and
support networks to spread the White Ribbon message. The ambassadors are Ray Wallace, Jimmy Ballentyne, Rawiri Hirini,
David Graham, Greg Besa, Rajneil Prasad and Gabriel Tupou. At Thursday’s event two new White Ribbon Ambassadors will be
announced.
The White Ribbon campaign is about the elimination of men’s violence towards women. The nationwide campaign aims to
encourage men to lead by example and talk to other men, live by respectful values, doing the right thing and promoting
respectful relationships.
The White Ribbon and “It’s Ok to Ask for Help” campaigns positively contribute to the reduction and effects of Family
Harm in communities.

* 8.00 to 8.30: Healthy breakfast
* 8.30 to 9.30: Speakers and entertainment by local school students.
* 9.30 to 9.40: Presentation to new White Ribbon Ambassadors
