Local bodies join in Armistice Day celebrations

Sea, sky and land came to life yesterday in commemoration of the centenary of the armistice.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council represented the sea – anchoring in the channel beside Memorial Park and sounding the horn
at 11:01 to break the minute silence, which remembered those who served our nation 100-years ago.
Bay Of Plenty Regional Council Harbourmaster Peter Buell skippered the Regional Council’s vessel and said it was an
honour to be a part of the nation-wide effort to recreate the roaring chorus that announced peace in 1918.
“We remembered our fallen and the centenary of the armistice that finally bought peace at 11am, the 11th hour of the
11th day of the 11th month.”
Bay of Plenty Regional Council represented sea, while Tauranga City Council symbolised land and New Zealand Classic
Flyers Club took to the sky.
