A teenager has appeared in Porirua Youth Court in relation to a fire at Kmart on Hutt Road last week.
Police were called by Fire and Emergency NZ to the suspicious fire around 4pm on Friday, November 2.
The fire was located at the end of a shelf in the party supplies area, where a rack containing pinatas had been set alight.
A sprinkler right above the fire contained it to a small area, and FENZ were able to extinguish it.
Shoppers were evacuated for a period of time as a precaution, and fortunately no one was injured.
A 15-year-old was arrested last night and appeared in the Youth Court today charged with arson.
