Herbalife Nutrition Foundation to Support
Life Education New Zealand’s Nutrition Education Program
New Zealand, November 1, 2018 – The Herbalife Nutrition Foundation (HNF) has announced that it is making a donation to support Life Education New
Zealand’s nutritional education program for students via a new teaching resource named ‘Harold’s Food Analyser App’.
The Herbalife Nutrition Foundation will provide Life Education New Zealand with a grant, which will enable the program
to further develop the ‘Harold’s Food Analyser App.’ The App is designed to allow students to plan meals, explore
different cultures, analyse the nutritional benefits that our bodies receive from various foods, and understand
nutritional values. It will be used by more than 40,000 children in mobile classrooms over the next 12 months, providing
an interactive experience and allowing teachers to utilise the technology in their classrooms, and encourage online use
at home.
Shobie King, Herbalife Nutrition’s vice president/sub-regional general manager, Southeast Asia, highlighted that due to
increasingly high rates of child obesity in New Zealand, as reflected in the New Zealand Government Health Survey
2016/17, around 1 in 8 children aged 2–14 years were obese (12%) and a further 21% were overweight. Children throughout
the whole country are vulnerable to developing a range of health issues.
“This makes the App especially timely, and important,” said Shobie. “We are so proud that our contribution to Life
Education New Zealand will contribute to helping New Zealand’s growing child obesity issue, and allow the organisation
to continue their vital health and nutrition related educational programs. At Herbalife Nutrition, we aim to make the
world a healthier and happier place through supporting organisations such as Life Education New Zealand.”
John O’Connell, Life Education New Zealand Chief Executive Officer, is thrilled to receive the donation from the
Herbalife Nutrition Foundation to enable the organisation to continue to develop their program and resources for
teachers and children.
“Child obesity doesn’t just impact on physical health but children’s mental health and wellbeing, education achievement,
and ultimately their chance to achieve their full potential,” said John.
Life Education New Zealand is a charity that educates and empowers children to make healthy choices so they can live
full and healthy lives. Every year they teach more than 250,000 children about their body, friendships, their identity,
food and nutrition and helpful and harmful substances.
The Herbalife Nutrition Foundation is a not for profit organization which establishes partnerships locally and globally
to bring good nutrition and nutrition education to children in need through financial and volunteer support. Life
Education New Zealand will be the first New Zealand organisation and the sixth in Australasia to reap the benefits of
HNF.
As well as Life Education New Zealand, Herbalife Nutrition Foundation currently also supports Power Community Limited in
South Australia, The Infants’ Home in New South Wales, Lighthouse Foundation in Victoria, Perth Children’s Hospital
Foundation in Western Australia and Sunshine Butterflies in Queensland.
