Tribute to Māui and Hector's dolphins held at Muriwai beach on Saturday.
A moving tribute attracted the interest and attention of conservationists and beach goers at the Tribute for Māui and Hector's dolphins held at Muriwai on Saturday 27 October.
A life sized replica dolphin was carried in a coffin to rest on the beach, in the area where Māui and Hector's often interact with local swimmers and surfers.
The event acknowledged the fifteen or more Māui and Hector's reported dead this year, including a family of five Hector's caught in a single net off Banks Peninsula and a pregnant mother and unborn calf Māui found dead at the beginning of October near Raglan.
