Three people have been arrested today in New Plymouth as part of an ongoing operation targeting methamphetamine dealers
in Taranaki.
A 28-year-old woman, a 25-year-old male, and a 38-year-old male, all from North Taranaki have been charged with
conspiracy to supply methamphetamine, along with a number of other drug-related charges.
All three will have their bail opposed by Police and are likely to appear in the New Plymouth District Court later
today.
Two New Plymouth men, aged 42 and 45, are already in custody for other matters, and have also been charged with
conspiracy to supply methamphetamine.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brent Matuku says these arrests demonstrate Police’s commitment to protecting the community
from the serious harm caused by organised crime and methamphetamine.
“The physical and social carnage that methamphetamine causes to our communities is unacceptable and we are committed to
lessening that harm and holding those responsible to account.”
It is not only the users that are harmed by the drug, but also the wider community and local businesses, says Detective
Senior Sergeant Matuku.
“Any form of drug use in our community has a detrimental impact on the individual, the family of the individuals and the
wider community.
It can drive many aspects of our reported and unreported crime.
For example family harm, dishonesty crime and serious assaults.
“Police can’t eliminate methamphetamine alone – it takes the wider community’s assistance to help combat the negative
impact of this drug, and thankfully in Taranaki we have that support from our community.”
