Council approved a request from Police to temporarily extend the alcohol ban areas during the Rhythm and Vines and East
Coast Vibe festivals over summer.
The application stated that in previous years, members of the public were subjected to incidents of disorder from
intoxicated people in areas around the festivals.
The temporary alcohol ban area for Rhythm and Vines (R) is extended to include the Grays Bush Scenic Reserve and car park, Grays Bush lookout, Waimata Valley Rd, Back Ormond
Rd from Hansen to Matawai Rd, Waihirere Domain Rd, Snowsill Rd, Glenelg Rd, Kawatiri Rd and all roads joining Matawai Rd
to Back Ormond Rd.
Lytton West Reserve is also included in this application.
The ban for R will apply from 8am on 27 December 2018 to 6pm on 1 January 2019.
The subject area for the East Coast Vibes concert is along Midway Beach bounded by Stanley Rd, Awapuni Rd, Salisbury Rd
and Midway Beach, the area already included in the alcohol ban bylaw that applies from 27 December to 1 January each
year.
The ban will apply from from 8am Friday 11 January to 6am on Sunday 13 January 2019.
Police are the enforcement agency ensuring compliance with the bylaw. The maximum infringement fine for a breach of the
alcohol ban is $250.
The aim of the temporary alcohol ban areas is to provide an additional tool to assist police in dealing with alcohol
related disorder.
