Lime reinforces its commitment to safety
Global e-scooter phenomenon Lime has seen fantastic uptake of its scooters in both Auckland and Christchurch reaching
40,186 unique riders following its recent launch and is now working with local authorities to increase the safety of its
riders.
Lime Launcher Hank Rowe said rider safety is Lime’s top priority and urges riders to always put the safety of themselves
and others before anything else when using the scooters.
“In order to unlock a Lime scooter for the first time, all riders must first complete in-app tutorials that provide
guidelines on helmet safety,” Mr Rowe said.
“Users must abide by all the same city and state laws as if they were operating their own cars, bikes or scooters, while
Lime’s scooters can reach 25km per hour, it is up to the rider to deem what speed is reasonable based off of their
surroundings.”
Mr Rowe said the New Zealand Lime team is committed to working closely with local authorities to tailor Lime’s service
to the needs of both cities and will be conducting roundtable discussions with NZTA, Auckland Transport and Christchurch
City Council to prioritise safety.
“We are taking on board concerns that have been raised about the safety of riders and pedestrians,” he said.
“In order to address these concerns and increase the safety of our riders, Lime will be hosting a Rider Safety Summit
in the next week to educate users on the importance of responsible scooter usage.”
