Hamilton Bus Passengers’ Pawns in Union’s National Action
Go Bus says that Hamilton bus passengers are being needlessly inconvenienced as the region’s urban bus services are
affected by national strike action between 5am and 9am Tuesday 23rd of October (tomorrow).
Nigel Piper, Chief Operating Officer of Go Bus, says Hamilton urban bus route passengers are once again being used as
pawns by First Union, this time as part of a strategy of national action relating to purported issues across other
regions.
‘We are not surprised by the short notice strike, but we are disappointed that Hamilton bus services have become targets
for national action. We are currently in a facilitated bargaining process with First Union, which we have put a
significant amount of effort into, it’s difficult to see the same commitment from the Union”, Mr Piper says
Mr Piper says the action will only affect Hamilton urban services and Go Bus will be making every effort to minimise
disruption. Te Awamutu and Otorohanga services will run as normal.
