Timaru Police have arrested eight local men in relation to a number of burglaries over the last week.
“These arrests are a timely reminder for commercial building owners to check and update their security systems,” Senior
Sergeant Dylan Murray says.
“Police continue to work hard to prevent, respond, investigate and resolve burglaries but we can’t do it alone.
“With a few simple actions, you can make sure your building, tools and materials are safe, especially when you’re
off-site.”
Help keep your property secure by:
· Locking all buildings, including out-buildings.
· Closing windows at night.
· Ensuring more than one key-holder is available to emergency services.
· Parking vehicles on your property or in a well-lit area.
· Installing burglar alarms, sensor lights, cameras or security grills.
“Construction sites and workers’ vehicles are often targeted too, so please, secure your tools, sheds and vehicles –
it’s an easy and effective way to deter thieves,” Senior Sergeant Murray says.
“We take burglary incidents seriously so if you see anything suspicious, report it to Police immediately.”
