Truck fire SH5

Published: Fri 12 Oct 2018 08:53 AM
SH5 north of Te Pohue remains closed following a truck fire earlier this morning.
The highway is closed at the intersection of SH5 and SH2 (Whirnaki/Eskdale) and SH1 and SH5 (Taupo).
Residents/non-through traffic only are being allowed through.
It is anticipated one lane will be opened in the next hour, this is dependent on the road being sufficiently cleared.
The damaged truck is still to be removed from the scene as specialist recovery equipment is required.
The road is not expected to be fully open for some time yet.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
