Council appreciates Ashhurst residents patience during water disruption
Water is flowing securely throughout Ashhurst reticulation following a major burst water main on Monday evening. The water supply was restored from around 2pm on Tuesday.
“We thank Ashhurst residents for their patience and tolerance in waiting for the water supply to return,” says Ray Swadel, PNCC Deputy Chief Executive
“Over seventy people took advantage of collecting water from a water tanker Council organised to be stationed at Lincoln Park. The Ashhurst Library handed out over 1300 1 – 2L bottles of water on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.”
“This unexpected loss of water is a timely reminder to be prepared in having emergency water supplies at their home or workplace, and to have secure and transportable containers to collect water from tankers,” says Mr Swadel.
“I‘d like to acknowledge our staff who worked long hours during Monday night and Tuesday to restore the water supply as quickly as possible. They did however encounter a few difficulties and issues during this process that caused delays in restoring water to a time later than initially expected.
“We also appreciate Ashhurst Library staff who assisted with distributing the bottled water and fielding enquiries”
“Council’s Facebook page became a valueable source of regular updates and we encourage people to refer to this page during similar events for information. Our contact centre also fielded hundreds of callers who rang to hear the automated message for updates.”
A renewal programme for pipe replacement has been budgeted for this financial year. This is in the same vicinity as the main that burst on Monday. The project is in the design stage and is targeted at the high risk areas along the 6km of risingmain from the bore station to the reservoir.
