The Creative Communities Assessment Committee have approved funding for three community initiatives under the 2017/18
funding round of the Creative Communities Scheme.
The committee allocated $3317 of funding towards the installation of a new community mural at Waiau School, and $800 to
Arts Canterbury for the production of the Artists of Canterbury Booklet.
A final $1100 of funding was assigned to Levity Beets to enable them to take their musical inventions performance and
workshop to both Amberley School and Amuri Area School.
Councillor Julia Mclean says the funding scheme is essential for the district as it allows small communities to access
vital funds to grow an interest or passion.
“The quality of applications was strong and in particular, it is pleasing to see a wide range of cultural endeavours
again supported by the funding.
“It is important to support the Arts, and the Hurunui’s residents and children will be the ones who benefit from this
funding that grows the understanding of the arts in the community,” says Councillor Mclean.
The Creative Communities Scheme is a partnership between Creative New Zealand and local councils, with each council
taking responsibility for delivering the scheme in its area. The scheme supports and encourages local communities to
create and present diverse opportunities for accessing and participating in arts activities within their specific
geographical area.
