Ashhurst Water Update

Published: Tue 9 Oct 2018 01:46 PM
The burst water main in Ashhurst has now been replaced, however there are delays in restoring water supply until the quality of water in the reservoir has been fully tested.
“Providing safe drinking water is our top priority,” says Robert Van Bentum, PNCC Transportation and Infrastructure Manager.
“We are testing the quality of the water before restoring the water supply to ensure it is completely safe to drink. We expect it to be restored this evening.”
Council has supplied bottled water for affected residents. This can be collected from the Ashhurst Library until 5pm.
A water tank with taps is currently stationed at Lincoln Park carpark. People can bring their own containers to fill. This will be available until 8pm this evening.
Once water supply is restored there may some some possibility it is discoloured – however, it will be safe to drink. For those not wanting to drink and bathe in the discoloured water, they should use their own personal emergency water supply or the water made available at the Library and Lincoln Park.
It is not recommended people wash laundry until the water colour is clear.
“We thank people for their patience and ask for them to check on their neighbours who are not mobile or can’t leave the house for water supplies.”
