GWRC’s select committee denials "Trump-like"
Tramways Union Wellington media release 27 September 2018
Bus drivers are astounded by the Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Select Committee claim this morning that they would not have done anything differently in the lead up to the Wellington bus fiasco.
Tramways Union Secretary Kevin O’Sullivan says the arrogance of the council is breathtaking. “First they claim they couldn’t protect drivers terms and conditions despite having done so in rail and despite other councils doing so in their PTOM tenders.
“Now they say they can’t do anything to put pressure on their contractor to negotiate in good faith. We don’t believe they have even asked for advice on what they could do to make Tranzit come to the table and negotiate a fair deal. They’re approaching Donald Trump-like levels of denial of reality.
“If the employment issues aren’t fixed the system can’t be fixed. It’s that simple, but the GWRC refuses to even acknowledge that. It’s just astounding given they are asking the people of Wellington to vote for them next year.
“Turning up to select committee with some dodgy statistics and trying to pretend that it’s all going to work out fine is an insult to the Government, to the drivers, and to the people of Wellington.”
