Council welcomes new tourism funding

13 September 2018

Marlborough District Council has been granted $668,000 in funding from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund, for five projects around Marlborough.

Deputy Mayor Terry Sloan, who is also chairman of the Council’s Assets and Services Committee, welcomed the new money.

“This is great news and means Marlborough can speed up the upgrade of our facilities for campers and visitors to the Marlborough Sounds, Havelock, Rai Valley and Koromiko.

Our tourism spending and traffic flows are up and we expect continued visitor growth, as more and more people discover what Marlborough has to offer.”

The projects are:
• Anakiwa toilets upgrade: $112,000
• Havelock toilets upgrade: $194,000
• Okiwi, Torea and Te Mahia Bay toilet upgrades: $118,000
• Rai Valley new public toilets: $134,000
• Collins Memorial Reserve toilets and picnic shelter, Koromiko: $110,000
This follows an award of $195,000 Government funding in August for toilet and car park upgrades. Further details are here
