The move north for Hamilton Zoo’s female rhino Jamila, to Auckland Zoo, was scheduled for today (5 September 2018), but has been postponed.
The Hamilton Zoo team has been working with Jamila over the last few months to familiarise her with the transport crate and she has been happily walking in. But today, she decided she just wasn’t in the mood.
The zoo team’s priority is Jamila and ensuring the transfer is as stress -free as possible - so both zoos will continue to work towards a successful move when Jamila is ready.
