Ngati Huarere places Rahui on Motutere (Castle Rock)
Ngati Huarere have implemented a rahui (a temporary
ritual prohibition) on their maunga Motutere, also know as
Castle Rock, until further notice following the deaths of
two people in recent months.
This closure is effective immediately and the public are asked not to access the site.
"As legal owners, we want to take time to discuss how we manage our maunga going forward," says Wanda Brljevich, Ngati Huarere spokesperson.
"This mountain is private property and notice is given that any unauthorised access will be taken as trespassing. Ngati Huarere does not accept any responsibility for anyone accessing the site, " says Mrs Brljevich.
