Low-lying paths and parks closed due to river level
Three of Hamilton’s low-lying river paths have been closed this morning (Friday 31 August) due to the level of the Waikato River.
The Waikato River catchment has received a large amount of rain over the last 48 hours, leading to a rise in the volume of water in the river.
Hamilton City Council staff have closed three low-lying paths in the interests of public safety.
The paths are in:
• Fairfield Esplanade
• Matakanohi Reserve
• Pine Beach Esplanade.
Members of the public are urged not to pass beyond closed gates at those locations.
The Grantham St car park is also being monitored and may be closed if the river rises further.
