Sustainability Festival in South Canterbury
To coincide with NZ Adult Learning Festival (which used to be Adult Learners Week) and the 350.org RISE response to climate change, South Canterbury environmental organisations have got together offer a Sustainability Festival from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th September.
On Friday afternoon there’s a bus trip into the Resource Recovery Park for Timaru, off Shaw Street, including a look at the site for EcoCentre Timaru (ecocentretimaru.org.nz)
On Saturday two free events in Geraldine look at community urban pest control (10.30 Geraldine Academy) and making homes warmer (1.30pm same venue). On Sunday an 11am brunch session at Geraldine Academy introduces Future Living Skills (sustainableliving.org.nz) and at 2.15pm there is a class on upcycling clothes for fashion. In the Geraldine cinema across Talbot Street, eco-documentaries Edible Paradise and Living the Change will screen at 1pm and 2.15pm
The two Saturday events in Geraldine are free, all others $10. See attached PDF. Booking is recommended on Eventfinda.
The main host
organisation is Sustainable South Canterbury Trust, local
operators of popular The Crow’s Nest re-use shop at
Redruth, Timaru. They have help from Timaru District
Council, Talbot Forest Working Group, ACE Aotearoa Adult
Learning Festival, Sustainable Living Education Trust, a
teacher from Opihi College and the manager of Geraldine
Cinema.
