BP public voting campaign for Surf Life Saving
BP launches public voting campaign for its annual Surf Life Saving New Zealand
Inflatable Rescue Boat donation
BP has today launched a two-week online public voting campaign for New Zealanders to help decide which Surf Life Saving Club should win an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in time for the coming summer.
For the next fortnight, BP and Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) are asking New Zealanders to ‘Vote the Boat’ and help decide which of the four finalist clubs from a large pool of incredible nationwide submissions get to take home $25,000 worth of lifesaving equipment thanks to BP.
BP New Zealand’s Managing Director Debi Boffa says, “Each of the four regional finalists have entered compelling submissions on how a new IRB will benefit their club and community so we wanted to share these great stories and ask for the public’s help to decide who should receive our annual IRB donation in time for summer.”
“IRBs are not only used for beach patrols but are a vital part of emergency management and are often called upon in floods and other emergencies year round. Together BP and SLSNZ make a difference - 55,000 lives have been saved by SLSNZ in the last 50 years with 22,000 lives saved using an IRB,” adds Boffa.
The Surf Life Saving NZ clubs in the running to win are:
• Kariaotahi Surf Life
Saving Club; Waiuku and Franklin
District
•
• Waimarama Surf Life Saving Club;
Hawke’s Bay
•
• Wainui Surf Life Saving Club;
Gisborne
•
• Oreti Surf Life Saving Club;
Southland
•
From 26 August – 9 September, New
Zealanders around the country have the chance to cast a
daily vote to help decide who will win. The prize includes
an IRB hull, Mercury outboard engine, trailer, fuel bladder,
rescue tube, two lifejackets (sometimes referred to as a PFD
or Personal Flotation Device), two helmets and a $100 BP
gift card.
BP has been in partnership with Surf Life Saving New Zealand for 50 years and both are in it for life. As part of their annual contribution to SLSNZ, BP donates a brand new IRB to one of the 74 lifesaving clubs around New Zealand as well as providing a $500 BP gift card to all the clubs to assist with their running costs.
